EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIVIDUALS
WITH EXTRA X CHROMOSOMES
Dr. Donald R. Bear, director of the
Center for Learning and Literacy at the University of Nevada, Reno and
student investigator, Mina Avery, are conducting a study of the
influence of extra X chromosomes on reading development. This study
hopes to determine specific areas of reading strengths and weaknesses.
Individuals with chromosome
variants 47,XXX and 47,XXY ages 5 to adult are invited to participate
in the study. Your participation in this study is voluntary. Your
participation will involve copying achievement test scores, completing
the spelling inventory and downloading the following documents from www.anextrakiss.com:
- Consent forms
- Spelling inventory instructions
- Spelling inventory word list
- A survey
The
spelling inventory, survey, consent forms and the copies of achievement
tests will then be mailed to the E.L. Cord Foundation Center for
Learning and Literacy, at the University of Nevada, Reno.
If you wish to be notified of
the results of the spelling assessment, you may request this
information when you mail in your test scores, inventory, survey and
consent forms. Please note an e-mail address or mailing address to
which you wish the results sent.
A brief research report will
be sent to the website moderators to post if they choose. This report
will also be available at www.anextrakiss.com.
